How to clean black BBQ soot from the inside of a dishwasher?

I put a frying pan, which was used on the side burner of our BBQ, into the dishwasher, and after the cycle ran, all the plastic dishes and the inside of the dishwasher have a black sooty appearance. I will need to run the cycle again, but does anyone have any “tips/tricks” of what to add with the cycle?
